LLMS.txt is a file that sits on your website and acts as a curated map for AI tools like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and other AI-powered search engines. Unlike a standard sitemap, it doesn`t list every page. It tells AI tools which pages actually matter for understanding your business.
As more people use AI tools to find local florists, having an LLMS.txt file gives you a better chance of appearing in AI-generated answers. This is part of a broader strategy called Answer Engine Optimisation (AEO).
How to set up LLMS.txt
- Go to your dashboard. Navigate to Marketing & SEO > SEO > LLMS.txt.
- Review the suggested pages. Your dashboard will show a list of pages to include. Go through them and decide what to keep.
- Add or edit titles and de script ions. Make sure each page has a clear title and a short, plain-English de script ion. Write them the way you`d explain the page to a customer, not a search engine.
- Preview your file. Use the preview function to check that the right pages are included and there are no duplicates.
- Save your changes. Click Update or Save to apply your changes in the dashboard.
- Publish. Click Publish to make the file live on your website.
What pages to include
Focus on pages that help a customer understand what you offer and where you deliver. Good candidates include:
- Your homepage
- Delivery information page
- Contact page and FAQs
- Key product categories, such as birthday flowers, sympathy flowers, and same-day delivery
- Your top-selling products
- Local suburb or service area pages
- Blog posts that demonstrate your expertise
What pages to leave out
Remove anything that isn`t useful to a customer or that doesn`t represent your business well:
- Privacy policy and terms pages
- Login or account pages
- Sold-out or discontinued products
- Duplicate or thin content pages
Writing good page de script ions
Each page in your LLMS.txt file needs a short de script ion. Keep it plain and specific.
- Weak: "Florist website | Flower Store In a Box"
- Strong: "Same-day flower delivery in Brisbane, including birthday, sympathy, and seasonal arrangements"
Write for the reader first. AI tools understand natural language, so a clear human-friendly de script ion works better than keyword stuffing.
Keep it short
Less is more. If you include too many pages, AI engines may ignore the file entirely. Aim for quality over quantity. A tightly curated list of 20 to 30 important pages will outperform a list of 200 low-value ones.
