Managing Your Products

Product Master Categories

A product master category (also called a hidden or temporary category) is a category that is not visible to customers in your store. You can use it to control how specific products behave on the product page, such as which products show presentation options, what substitution text appears, or which products are restricted on certain dates.

Master categories work like tags. Assign a product to one and the settings attached to that category apply to it.

What you can use them for

  • Presentation options. Control which products offer customers a choice of presentation, such as wrapped or in a vase. Useful for excluding non-floral items or products that already come in a vase.
  • Date-based restrictions. For busy dates like Valentine`s Day or Mother`s Day, create a hidden category, add the relevant products to it, and apply availability restrictions at the category level.
  • Custom substitution text. Show different substitution policies depending on the product type. For example, display one message for floral products and a different message for add-ons.

How to assign a product to a master category

  1. Go to your product list and open the product you want to update.
  2. Find the category field and assign the product to the relevant master category.
  3. Save the product.

You can create master categories and assign products to them yourself. To connect a master category to a specific behaviour on the product page (such as showing presentation options or custom text), contact FSIAB support to have the integration set up.

Tips

  • Master categories are not shown to customers, so adding a product to one will not affect how your store navigation looks.
  • One product can belong to more than one category, so you can combine a master category with your visible store categories.
  • Set up the category and assign your products before contacting support, so the integration can be completed in one step.
