Category Restrictions

Overview

Category Restrictions allow you to control which products customers can purchase for specific delivery dates.

This is especially useful during high-demand periods such as Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day, where flower costs increase and availability is limited.

By using Category Restrictions, you can ensure customers only order from the correct, pre-priced collections—helping you protect your margins and avoid overselling.

When Should I Use Category Restrictions?

Use Category Restrictions when:

  • Flower costs increase during peak periods
  • You have limited stock availability
  • You have created a special collection such as a Mother’s Day or Valentine’s Day range
  • You want to control what can be delivered on specific dates

How Category Restrictions Work

When a restriction is applied:

  • Customers must select a product from the chosen category for that delivery date
  • Products outside the category will show as unavailable for that date
  • Customers are guided to the correct category automatically

Strict vs Non-Strict Mode

Strict Mode

  • Customers can only purchase products from the selected category
  • No other products can be added

Non-Strict Mode (Recommended)

  • Customers must choose a product from the selected category
  • They can still add extras or add-ons from other categories

Tip: We recommend using Non-Strict Mode so customers can still increase their order value with add-ons.

Customer Experience

Your customers will see helpful prompts throughout their journey:

On the Product Page

  • A message will appear if the product is not available for the selected date
  • A link will direct them to the correct category

At Checkout

  • If an invalid product is selected, the customer will be prompted to update their order before proceeding

How to Set Up a Category Restriction

Follow these steps:

  1. Go to Settings → Delivery Options
  2. Click Category Restrictions
  3. Click Add Category Restriction
  4. Select the delivery date, or multiple dates if required
  5. Choose the category you want to restrict orders to
  6. Select Strict if you want to allow only products from that category, or leave it unchecked for Non-Strict mode
  7. Click Save Changes

Best Practice Tips

  • Create dedicated collections for key events such as Mother’s Day and Valentine’s Day
  • Price these products to reflect higher flower costs during peak periods
  • Apply Category Restrictions to key delivery dates
  • Use Non-Strict Mode to allow add-ons and increase order value
  • Test your setup before peak periods begin

Summary

Category Restrictions help you:

  • Control what customers can order
  • Prevent overselling
  • Protect your profit margins
  • Guide customers to the right products
